Poker is a card game in which players compete against each other to create the best possible hand. In poker, the betting round ends with a showdown. In this phase, all players reveal their cards. After a showdown, the best hand wins the pot. Each round of poker starts with an ante, a small wager that allows a player to begin the game. This is usually one dollar or five dollars. When a player has a winning hand, they will then make a bet into the center pot, called the pot. During the course of many rounds, they will eventually run out of money.

Players can also make ante bets. In some poker variations, blind bets replace the ante. These bets are made before each player is dealt his or her cards. The blinds are rotated around the table each round. The person making the blind bet will be the one to call the bet before checking.
